Warm greetings to all of you in these uncertain times. With social distancing upon us, many in-person events have been cancelled; however, we still have much to share. Some members of our community, like Lexington Farmers Market and LexFarm are considered essential services and so are adapting with creative ways to maintain a safe distance while serving their customers. Lexington Citizens for Conservation is offering tips on how to conduct self-guided walks. No matter what your situation, we hope that you can find something hopeful and helpful in this newsletter.

Lexington Farmers Market

Small Yet Mighty Winter Market

Every other Saturday through April
Saturday, April 11th, 11:00am – 2:00pm
Held at the Waldorf School (outdoors!)
739 Massachusetts Ave, Lexington

At this time, the LFM plans to hold our last winter market of the season on April 11th outdoors in the Waldorf School parking lot. With farmers’ markets considered essential services to the community, the LFM will be bringing you the best in local healthy food, as well as increased safety protocols and ways to keep your social distance. Pre-orders and pre-payment are highly encouraged if you can; you'll save on time and minimize interactions at the market. In the midst of all the uncertainty, we were happy to support our customers, locally grown food providers, and small businesses.

To check for any schedule changes, learn about ways to pre-order, or order home delivery from our farmers and vendors, please go to our website.

Lexington Community Farm

LexFarm is thankful that farming is considered an ‘essential activity,’ and we are working hard to prepare for the growing season! Our farm staff have begun planting seeds, prepping beds for planting and planning the pre-buy seedling sale. LexFarm is making sure that everyone coming on to our farm – workers, shoppers and visitors – are safe.

Our farm stand will be open, weekends in May, offering a wide variety of certified organic vegetable, herb, and flower seedlings for your garden.

Happening now and until April 15: shop LexFarm’s pre-buy online seedling sale! Pre-order online and pre-pay by PayPal, check or credit card, and your seedlings will be available to you for a quick and safe pickup at our farm stand at 52 Lowell Street during May pick-up weekend.

With the prospect of limited assembly and social interaction extending well into the summer, LexFarm has made the difficult decision to suspend our educational program for 2020. We have decided to put our efforts into food production and food safety. LexFarm remains committed to providing access to organically grown food to everyone in our community, including those experiencing food insecurity. Now, more than before, we need to make sure that those of our community, particularly those affected by COVID-19, have access to fresh local produce.

Citizens for Lexington Conservation

Are you looking for ideas on how to add interest to your outdoor walks in this time of social distancing? With the expectation that many of its normal schedule of spring walks will need to be cancelled, Citizens for Lexington Conservation (CLC) will be offering self-guided tips on a variety of topics on its website and in its spring newsletter.

Look for suggestions on best bird watching areas in town to enjoy the splendor of spring bird migration along with articles suggesting best online apps for bird watching and plant identification. Also look for suggestions on where to find wild edible plants as well as tips on how to record the splendor of the season with photography.

As the season progresses, continue to monitor the CLC web site for a listing of those walks that will be permitted to take place. Weekly updates will be posted if restrictions on gatherings are lifted. For additional information on trails on town land, visit the Town of Lexington's website.

Spring is a rewarding time of year to venture out of doors, and Lexington’s ample open space resources provides every neighborhood in town with the opportunity to enjoy the season. So get out and enjoy. Guidance is literally available at your finger-tips.
