The Lexington Green Network website goes live!

Thanks to the amazing work of scores of people, the LGN website is now up and running. Please give a visit and let us know what you think! We hope this website will be a resource for all Lexingtonians who care about the environment, climate change and local environmental action. The website will provide a platform for exchanging ideas, programs and resources to build community among the many green leaning organizations in our town. There will be a “virtual community meeting” in the next few months to check in with the organizations that have contributed to this newsletter and whom we think of as “members."

Special thanks to Hien Nguyen for taking this effort across the finish line, along with programmer Don Doherty who unknotted some of the site’s technical challenges. Thank you to web designer Nancy Cowen for the original design. Additional thanks to Ricki Pappo of Lexington Global Warming Action Coalition and Mary Hutton of Lexington Mothers Out Front and Madelyn Atwood for collaborating on the original grant to the New England Grass Roots Environmental Foundation and supporting this project. Deep appreciation to LexGWAC as the “parent” organization that funded the website and added the LGN website project to a recent grant from the Community Endowment of Lexington to finish the site.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Lexington Farmers Market

Mark Your Calendars: the LFM Summer Farmers' Market is opening for the season!

Tuesday, June 9
2:00 – 6:30 pm (2:00 – 3:00 pm: Pre-order pick-up only hour; no on-site sales)
Corner of Fletcher Ave & Mass Ave, Lexington

While the 2020 market season is going to look different, the focus on access to local, healthy food will remain the same. As we adapt to the precautions related to public gatherings, the LFM is designed to be an essential food access point. And while music, special events and community groups will be on hold for now, you can still expect to find your favorite LFM farmers and vendors every Tuesday at the market.

The LFM farmers/vendors and market staff will be following guidelines from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Lexington BOH to make the LFM as safe as possible. Changes this year include a newly designed market layout to increase social distancing with a single entrance and exit , a one way shopper loop through the market, a preorder pickup only hour, increased sanitation and disinfection, and ways to minimize contact. Do your part: wear a face covering, shop alone if you can, and follow physical distancing rules.

For a full list of customer rules for safe shopping and more information on which farmers and vendors will attend, how to best prepare for your market visit, and what to expect when you arrive, please visit the LFM's website or follow us on Facebook. Together we can safely manage the risks and provide a market space filled with the great, local food we all value. We're glad to be back.

Coming Soon: The Story of Plastic Movie; “virtual” community showing and discussion

THE STORY OF PLASTIC takes a sweeping look at the man-made crisis of plastic pollution and the worldwide effect it has on the health of our planet and the people who inhabit it. Spanning three continents, the film illustrates the ongoing catastrophe: fields full of garbage, veritable mountains of trash, rivers and seas clogged with waste, and skies choked with the poisonous emissions from plastic production and processing.

THE STORY OF PLASTIC features interviews with experts and activists on the front lines of the fight, revealing the disastrous consequences of the flood of plastic smothering ecosystems and poisoning communities around the world, and the global movement that is rising up in response. With engaging original animation, archival industry footage beginning in the 1930s, and first-person accounts of the unfolding emergency, the film distills a complex problem that is increasingly affecting the planet’s and its residents’ well-being.
